about

A good friend of mine lent me two amazing drummachines over the course of the summer, the Oberheim DMX and the Sequential Drumtraks.

Both released in the 80s, these machines had a distinct punchy sound due in part to their sample-based nature. These have been used in all tracks of this release along with the usual x0x boxes and analog synths.

On the opener "Rablat" around the 1:10 mark, you can clearly hear the Drumtraks come in to support the groove along with the floaty pads of the Prophet 600 from the same era.

"Fluvsong" picks up the pace with a fast-moving acid bassline, staccato rythms and a dodgy detuned melody.

As I was making the tracks, these machines gradually pulled the production towards an 80s sound, which wasn't originally the intention. Throughout the project I had to resist the urge to go full-on 80s, which was very tempting with these machines at hand. Eventually, I let it rip on the third track "Operativ".

Finally, the release closes off with the a dreamy track titled "2349o".

I hope you enjoy this as much as I had fun to make them.
Cheers -mmw
